Silver Lights provides seniors a personal service

NORTH DURHAM/KAWARTHA: Silver Lights Senior Services is looking to provide seniors in Lindsay, Port Perry and Uxbridge with a one of a kind service.
The business was launched by Tammy Adams in February, and provides “companionship and accompanying services” for seniors who live in those three towns.
Some of the services include: taking them to medical appointments or out grocery shopping; helping them with linen changes and laundry; taking them and some of their friends shopping in Bobcaygeon or Oshawa; and driving them to the airport or to visit old friends.
Ms. Adams said the business is “more personal” than what is out there presently, because she will make sure the seniors have everything they need, such as their keys or shopping list, when they leave the house, she makes sure they are always accompanied, and helps them when they return home.
“They get to know me like a companion,” Ms. Adams said.
The Silver Lights website describes Ms. Adams, who was born and raised in the Kawartha Lakes, as “caring, compassionate, trustworthy, dedicated, and personable.” She has a background in supporting and advocating for people with special needs.
Ms. Adams explained why she decided to launch this business.
“Just the need for services for seniors. I experienced a lot of people who were lonely, had no family supports.”
The most important part of this business is giving seniors their independence, Ms. Adams says.
“I know there’s a lot of seniors that don’t get out socially, and I try to help them be more independent,” she said.
