With all that has been going on between USA and Canada perhaps it is appropriate we start with recognizing the Canadian flag in now 60 years old.

Before you read this we will likely experience a full moon, called a snow moon! Wonder why! If the last week has been any example, we won’t actually see it but have you noticed how bright it is outside at night with reflection from the clouds and snow? You hardly need a light to get around! Sunday was the Lunar New Year which some celebrate, some celebrate the Lantern Festival on the 15th! I mentioned last week about the expansion of Rouge Natural Park with lands that had been expropriated for an airport. Well, it was actually 1972 when that all started and all that prime farmland sat there, not entirely vacant but not being used to its fullest

Only a few birthdays this week from around that I know of. The first to Linda Morgan who was raised around Sandford before the family moved closer to Uxbridge. At one time there were many of her relatives around but most of the ones I knew have passed away. The next is birthday boy Don Cordingley.

On Thursday 19th relatives and friends will say goodbye to Bob Meek. Bob lived all his live except the last couple, in Sandford. The service will be at Lows, 11 am, followed by refreshments and gathering at Sandford Hall immediately after! Our church service this week was conducted by our own Adele Boy who spoke on Luke 5: 1-11 and the calling of the first disciples. Next wheel Rev. Li will be with us. The last Sunday of the month we look forward to having Rev. William Fritz with us once more. Lucky us because, at 90 he is in such a big demand that's it’s hard to catch him! Please join with us.

This has been a busy week for entertainment events. On Thursday evening at the Legion, about 40 turned out to an event organized by the indefatiquable Tish MacDonald and Honour Them Well! Alex Fitzgerald-Black, executive director of the Juno Beach Centre Association spoke about how the Centre came about. It was built and operated by Canadians to honour those killed there in WW2, On land given by the French town close to the site. He had many pictures to illustrate not only the present building but the large extension that is planned to be build in the near future! Tish announced that over 300 banners have been purchased over the few years the programme has been in operation and that $1000 of the funds will be going to the Juno Beach Centre!

On Friday night Anne Irvine and I attended the Jazz concert at the Historic Leaskdale Church. There was a huge crowd gathered to hear Tom Baker, Whitney Ross-Barris and James Warburton on bass! It was a wonderful performance and Whitney proved herself not only an accomplished songstress but a pretty good comedian as well! The next Jazz concert will be Mar.7 There will also be another different style event in a couple of weeks! This Sat., Feb 15 there will be a special event at St. Paul’s Anglican Church about the “Silent Films, Uxbridge and Environs,” by John Haines, assisted by local musicians, 7 pm, and free! I was quizzed about an Asling relative being involved in those activities but could not enlighten them. It will be interesting to see if they found anything relative haha! Spring is coming, soon, according to the groundhog, and the Rotary Club is selling non-GMO seeds from until Feb.28. The contact site is : http.ss//makeitsow.com/shop/#code-Submission. For every packages of seeds sold “Make It So” plants a tree in Canada and provides a certificate!
