Work beginning on Water Street projects

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: The Township of Scugog is working on some of the waterfront revitalization projects.

Construction for a new washroom and splash pad in Port Perry’s Palmer Park began, on Tuesday, August 6th. The project is expected to take three months to complete.

According to the Scugog Township, the project is expected to include: an “upgrade of the existing water service to Palmer Park,” servicing and installing “a new prefabricated washroom building,” removing and replacing the existing splash pad, landscaping, tree plantings, work on an “armour stone seat wall,” and seating with tables and shade umbrellas.

“The contract for this project has been awarded to Powcon Inc. Construction, [who] will begin with servicing the site, followed by installation of the prefabricated washroom building and replacement of the splashpad. Removal of the splashpad is scheduled to begin in September,” a township press release explained.

“To upgrade the water service to the park, construction will be required on Water Street, to tie into the existing watermain. Traffic controls will be set up on the road to allow for this work. Please use caution and follow the construction signage in and around the construction zone.”

Earlier this year, it was announced, a Water Street rehabilitation project would start, on Monday, August 12th. This project is expected to be completed in November.

The scope of this project includes: the removal of asphalt; “repairing the granular base;” repairs to the sidewalk and curb; repaving the road; construction of a new sidewalk, between Mary Street and Queen Street, and converting angled parking to parallel parking.

“During construction, vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses and parking lots, whenever possible. There may be short periods of time when vehicle access is not available,” read a post on the Township’s My Scugog website.
