SCUGOG: Scugog residents will have a chance to meet and hear from acclaimed council members, as well as candidates for the Ward 5 race, at upcoming community talk events.
In order to boost community engagement during the municipal election, current Regional Councillor and acclaimed mayoral candidate Wilma Wotten is holding a series of community talks across the Township.
“[This will be] just for people to come and talk about their concerns and what’s good about Scugog, or what they’d like to see happen in Scugog in the next four years. I’m hoping to go to each of the wards a couple of times, and I’m hoping the acclaimed candidates, as well as those running in Ward 5, will join me,” Ms. Wotten told The Standard, following her acclamation.
One of these events was held on Tuesday, October 4th, at Two Blokes Cider, in Seagrave. The next community talk will be held on Thursday, October 6th, at Sunnybrae Golf Club, in Prince Albert. Scugog Island Hall will be the next stop, on Wednesday, October 12th. The next day, Thursday, October 13th, the Scout Hall in Port Perry will host one of these events. Candidates will then meet at the Nestleton Community Centre, on Tuesday, October 18th. All of these community talks start at 7 p.m.
Ward 5 candidates include Ivo Finotti, Louie Mohammad and Terry Coyne.
The acclaimed candidates include Ms. Wotten as Mayor, Ian McDougall as Regional Councillor, David LeRoy as Ward 1 Councillor, Janna Guido as Ward 2 Councillor, Robert Rock as Ward 3 Councillor and Harold Wright as Ward 4 Councillor.
