UXBRIDGE: The Ontario government is investing in the Uxbridge healthcare campus site redevelopment.
On Friday, January 24th, at the Oak Valley Medical Centre next to Uxbridge’s hospital, MPP and Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy announced the government is giving Oak Valley Health $4.5 million.
“Through this new investment, several site works will be completed to support the next stage of Oak Valley Health – Uxbridge’s redevelopment project, including the construction of the east portion of the north service road and the provision of a new mechanical generator. The expansion of the hospital will create a larger, state-of-the-art space to expand services and ensure the hospital can continue to meet the needs of the Uxbridge community. Site work is set to begin once the construction contract is awarded and is scheduled to be completed prior to the main project commencing construction,” an Ontario government press release stated.
The release also noted this campus will “bring health care and community providers together across three facilities: a new hospital, a long-term care home, and an ambulatory care building.”
Mark Fam, the President and CEO of Oak Valley Health, called this announcement “a culmination of years of exciting energy in this community.”
He called the project “a wonderful expansion of healthcare close to home, providing wonderful care to our community.” MPP Bethlenfalvy said the early works portion of this project is “so critical” and noted, “every piece counts.”
“We still have a ways to go, but don’t ever give up your perseverance. It makes a difference,” he added. “This is another great day along this journey.”
At a council meeting on Monday, January 27th, Mayor Dave Barton explained how important this announcement is.
“Before you can start a construction project, you need to get the servicing in the right place, you need access roads, you need stormwater management, and that’s what we got permission to start on Friday.”
He also called Uxbridge’s nurses and doctors “amazing” and Uxbridge’s healthcare staff an “extremely caring team.”
