UXBRIDGE: The Township of Uxbridge is celebrating a recent announcement of bed allocation for the planned new long term care facility at the campus of care near the Uxbridge hospital and medical centre.

“I am pleased to announce our government will be funding the addition of 192 long-term care beds, 92 of which are new to the region,” Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy said, in a statement provided to The Standard. “The Early Works announced on January 24th, 2025, will allow for the start of construction on the campus of care here in Uxbridge which will provide a seamless integrated approach to serve our aging seniors.”

The new home at the hospital’s redevelopment site at 4 Campbell Drive will be run by UniversalCare Canada.

“The campus of care model will feature a new hospital, a long-term care home, and an ambulatory care building,” an Ontario government press release explained.

At a recent council meeting, members of council welcomed the provincial announcement.

“This is the type of thing which will be around for a very long time and support a very important part of our community here,” Ward 3 Councillor Zed Pickering said.

Regional Councillor Bruce Garrod pointed out, “outbreak containment is so much better at new builds.”

Mayor Dave Barton pointed out this 192 bed facility will bring 300 jobs to the community. He also explained how this adds to the community.

“This is better because it’s completely linked with the hospital, so when someone’s not feeling great they can go over and get a blood test and go right back to their room for treatment,” he explained. “There are so many wins with this.”
