UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins have officially named Trevor Cox as their new General Manager (GM), ushering in a new era for the storied hockey club. Mr. Cox, who has been deeply embedded in the Bruins' fabric for years, steps into the GM role after serving as an assistant coach since 2017 and as the team's Assistant GM for the past two seasons.
Trevor Cox's association with the Bruins is long and illustrious. In 1996, he watched as his older brother Robert helped lead the Bruins to a division championship. He made his debut with the team as a 15-year-old Affiliate Player in the 1998-99 season, and in the fall of 2000, he joined the team full-time. Over the next five years, Mr. Cox became a mainstay in the lineup, appearing in 164 regular season games for his hometown club. His contributions didn't stop on the ice; as both a player and a coach, Mr. Cox has been part of four Cougar Cup-winning teams, helping the Bruins claim their place as champions of the Orr Division.
Team President Jay Simmonds expressed his confidence in Cox's leadership, "Trevor has been a vital part of our organization for many seasons, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of what it means to be a Bruin. His dedication to this team is unparalleled, and I'm excited to see where he will lead us as General Manager." Mr. Simmonds has worked closely with Mr. Cox with the Bruins in recent years.
As the Bruins prepare for their upcoming season, with training camp set to begin in Stouffville in the last week of August, Mr. Cox is eager to steer the team back to the top. "This club means a lot to me, and I have been fortunate to be part of a lot of success with the Bruins over the years, and that's what we're striving to get back to being. One of my main goals is for the Bruins to be a destination for players in the PJHL," Mr. Cox said. "My goal for this team is to be part of that group of teams which is competing year in and year out, not just for division championships, but going against the best from across Ontario for Schmalz Cup championships."
Last week, the Bruins opened their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 victory over the Stayner Siskins in Wasaga Beach. The team continues with training camp this week in Stouffville as they prepare for the annual pre-season tournament in Alliston during the second weekend in September.
The Bruins will host their home opener on Saturday, September 21st, when they host the Clarington Eagles at 6:15 p.m. To celebrate the occasion, the team offers free admission to all local young players who arrive with a paying adult wearing their North Durham Warriors, North Durham Blades, Brock Wild, or Sunderland Stingerz jersey.
