DARRYL KNIGHT, The Standard

BROCK: Cannington's The Thrift Hub has once again been recognized for its outstanding commitment to accessibility, winning the 2024 Township of Brock Accessibility Award.

This marks the second time the Hub has received this honour, having previously shared the award in 2021 with Jolene Munro, Brock's Technology Coordinator/Library Clerk.

Located at 33 Cameron Street East, The Thrift Hub has been acknowledged for its continuous efforts in fostering an inclusive environment which ensures all patrons, regardless of ability, can access its services comfortably. The award celebrates the Hub's dedication to removing barriers through physical modifications and the introduction of programs which specifically cater to individuals with disabilities.

The award presentation took place with notable figures in attendance, including Mayor Walter Schummer, Ward 3 Councillor Angela Canavan, and members of the Brock Accessibility Advisory Committee: Chair Donna Schirle, Vice Chair Tony Laundrie, Mike Parliament, and Gerhard Smit.

The Township of Brock expressed its deep appreciation for The Thrift Hub and its staff, commending their unwavering commitment to accessibility. The Hub's efforts not only enhance the quality of life for residents with disabilities but also set a benchmark for other businesses and organizations within the community.

The recent recognition of The Thrift Hub serves as a testament to the significant impact of prioritizing inclusivity. The award not only honours their contributions but also emphasizes the importance of continuing progress toward a more accessible community for all.

In addition to The Thrift Hub, previous winners of the Township of Brock Accessibility Award include McCaskill's Mills Public School, Cannington Foodland, Sunderland Pharmacy, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #135 in Beaverton, and local resident Olga Kuzmich, who received the award in 2023.
