SCUGOG: Port Perry hosted the Central East Women’s Fastpitch League playoff tournament this weekend for the U10 Mite division. With the Cobourg Jr. Angels opting out of this tournament, the Aurora Diggers and the Port Perry Angels went head to head in one championship game. Strong pitching from Aurora shut down the Angels in their first at-bat. On the defense, Brie made a nice snag at third for 1 out, and pitcher Sam made 2 strikeouts to end the first inning down 4-0. Leading off the second inning, Brie hit a single and stole her way into scoring position. After making a play on Addison’s hit and more strong pitching, the Angles could not get on the board. Back on the defense, Brie strikes out the first 2 batters followed with a hit up the first baseline where Madison makes the play to end the second inning. Top of 3, the Diggers make a play on Sam’s hit, one out. Erica reaches first on a walk and then scores on a ground ball through the infield by Jadyn. Angels are on the board. Bottom of 3, Brie shuts down the Aurora Diggers with 3 strikeouts. Top of 4, Lauren and Dakota are on base with one out, Brie hits a line drive caught by the Diggers and they make a double play to end the inning. Bottom of 4, Madison shuts down the Diggers with 3 strikeouts. The fifth inning is scoreless with great pitching from both teams and with no time left in the game, the Aurora Diggers take the gold 4-1 over the Port Perry Angels.
