Such amazing news, since we last left off! I am in the process of writing a book; alas, I need your help. My series “Old and New: Buildings of Port Perry” is posted on my Facebook page. If you have any stories to share about these locations, I want to hear from you. Email me, at:

The second bit of news is, my piece “Chasing bubbles” was accepted in the Scugog Arts Annual Juried Show. It’ll be on display at the Scugog Arts, from Tuesday, July 26th until September 6th. The juried show will be held on Saturday, July 30th, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. On this day, awards will be handed out. I invite you to come and say hello!
For those of you not familiar with Plein air, it’s painting outside.
I had the opportunity to take a workshop with Harvey Walker. This was held at the Lavender Blu farm just north of Port Perry. This was my first Plein air experience, on top of using oil paint for the first time.
It was awesome learning how to use oil paint. I expected it to be a lot more finicky. With a bit of guidance, I was pleasantly surprised. I learned how to create clouds, using a palette I’d never used before. I learned about creating the right perspective for my painting. While I admit my finished product was no masterpiece, it was a start. You can’t expect to be good at something the first time. I left feeling confident, and content I would try again. It was just a peaceful and pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
A beautiful day with pleasant company made for an awesome experience. Beginner or expert, I highly recommend it.
Happy painting!
