SCUGOG: A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for making threats at Port Perry High School. The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 15th.

The same day, the Durham Regional Police Service issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“We are aware of a threat made toward Port Perry High School. [The] Suspect is in custody; no concerns for public safety. The school remains open. Further information will be released as it becomes available.”

The local school remained open following the arrest on January 15th. The Durham District School Board (DDSB) did not provide a statement by press time. However, in 2023 the board provided The Standard with a statement on how they handle police situations.

“The DDSB and individual schools work collaboratively with Durham Regional Police Service to take all school safety matters and potential threats seriously, taking immediate action, conducting thorough investigations and taking appropriate measures as required to ensure the ongoing safety of everyone at school.”
