SCUGOG: Victory Christian Centre (VCC) has organized a door-to-door donation pick-up for Operation Scugog. The pick-up will take place on Sunday, October 2nd.

“We are doing this to support the community,” said Pastor John Benschop. He is requesting Port Perry residents, who are able, to prepare non-perishable food items for pick up during this drive. Victory Christian Centre is cancelling its Sunday service on October 2nd, so volunteers can go door-to-door, between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., to pick up donations.

Areas they will be coming to include Canterbury Commons, Greenway (the subdivision across from Canadian Tire), Cawkers Creek area, Apple Valley, Walsh Drive area, areas around PPHS and Prince Albert.

If you will not be home, to answer your door, but would like to leave a donation, you can leave non-perishable food items (and other donations) outside your home, say, on your front stoop, step or deck.

If you’re interested in participating, by donating non-perishable food items, here is what VCC is looking for. They are asking people send in kids’ snacks, juice boxes and small items like granola bars, pudding cups and fruit cups. Each item must be unused before donating and packaged inside a properly sealed container, and no EXPIRED food or pasta.

Operation Scugog is also hoping for canned goods, like canned vegetables and fruit, or grocery cards. In addition, they are requesting toiletries (unused) such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner and other hygiene products, for those in need.

This is not the first time Victory Christian Centre has organized or participated in an activity like this. According to Pastor Benschop, in 2014, volunteers from the Centre collected one ton of food for the local food bank.

VCC is a non-denominational church located in Port Perry, at 593 Alma Street.

You are welcome to make a food bank donation directly to VCC. Their hours of operation are Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
