Support Local Youth Initiatives by joining the Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament

SCUGOG: This year the Township of Scugog's Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament will be donating their proceeds to support local youth initiatives.

The tournament is on Thursday, September 12th. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the tournament starts around 12 p.m. If you are interested in joining, it costs $150 per person or $560 for a group of four.

The tournament is open to everyone of all skill levels, so you do not have to be a “pro golfer” to enter.

“This annual event has become near and dear to many local residents and businesses. It is incredible to see our community come together to support a great cause!” said Jenn Churchill, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor and CAO.

The team, at Sunnybrae Golf Course, where the tournament is held, offers two meals during the event. The tournament also includes games, prizes and a silent auction. A trophy will be rewarded to the “most honest team.”

 “[It will be] a great day of fun for everyone to enjoy,” she added.

In 2023, there were 120 golfers who attended the tournament.

“It’s more than just a day on the greens!” shared Ms. Churchill. “It is a great day of networking and fun, but our goal is to bring attention to our cause, the needs of youth in our community.”

If you are planning on attending the tournament, Ms. Churchill said, one of her most important pieces of advice is, “play to have fun.”

The team behind the tournament consists of a number of people, including: the Golf Organizing Committee, the Gold Donations Committee, and Township staff members from various departments.

Since the start of the tournament, in 2004, the team has always tried their best to enhance and support youth initiatives in Scugog.

Funds raised, at the Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament, provide Scugog youth organizations with an opportunity to access funding. This helps them continue to offer programs to Scugog youth.

Funding can be applied to the following areas:

• Enhancing and improving infrastructure, meant for local youth, such as local playgrounds, within Scugog Township.

• Assistance, to participate in a recognized youth organization or events, such as The Lookout Youth Centre.

• Assistance with continued education

“We encourage all youth organizations in Scugog to apply, with their unique needs!” stated Ms. Churchill.

The Golf Donations committee has received a number of applications, to support various youth initiatives. These applications include initiatives, such as: sending youth to camp, providing coaching and training funds, and facility improvements etc.

The Golf Donations Committee is inviting Scugog youth groups to submit grant applications. Applications will be accepted up until Friday August 16th, 2024.

Presently, the committee is made up of staff volunteers, so there is no current need for more. However, volunteer opportunities, for during the tournament, may be open to high school students in the future.

You do not have to be a golfer to support Scugog youth initiatives.

“The Fore Scugog Charity Golf Tournament has been able to give back to our community; not only from the contributions of our golfers, but also from our generous sponsors,” said Ms. Churchill. “Whether you own a business or would like to contribute personally, there are several sponsorship levels available. We are also seeking in-kind donations to our silent auction.”
