Sunderland Fair set to celebrate with “In the Apple Orchard” theme

BROCK: The historic Sunderland Fair, Durham Region’s oldest agricultural fair, is back with a delightful theme for 2024: “In the Apple Orchard.” Originally established in 1851, this beloved event is set to take place on Tuesday, September 10th, and Wednesday, September 11th, promising two days packed with family-friendly fun, tradition, and entertainment.

The fair officially opens to the public at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by the opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. Attendees can look forward to the excitement of lawn tractor pulls in front of the grandstand, starting at 6 p.m., while the horse pull event will take place near the baseball diamonds at 6:30 p.m. The evening wraps up with a musical performance by the ever-popular Ben Hudson, who will take the stage at 8 p.m., ensuring a memorable close to the first day.

The fun continues on Wednesday, with the fairgrounds reopening at 10 a.m., beginning with a vibrant parade from the local school. Throughout the day, there will be an array of engaging activities, including inflatables, escape rooms, and axe throwing. Families with young children won’t want to miss the princess meet and greet, scheduled from Noon to 2 p.m.

The grand finale of the fair is set for 7 p.m. with the highly anticipated demolition derby, a crowd favorite that promises a thrilling end to the 2024 Sunderland Fair.
