Statement from Regional Chair John Henry on New Year's Day 2023

The following statement is being issued on behalf of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham:

“It is time for new beginnings. On January 1st, we begin a new horizon; the start of a new year and celebrating all the wonders of what’s to come for Durham Region.

As we reflect on the past year, while looking forward into the future, let’s remember our accomplishments, the joy we brought each other, and how resilient we are as a community.

Durham Region is a supportive community that fosters incredible relationships and partnerships, and 2022 proved just that in how we supported our local and small businesses across the region. I know that we will continue to support our businesses and each other in the new year.

We certainly had trying times together this past year as we continued to navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic. As we continue to be Durham Strong, I am hopeful the new year will bring us great health, an abundance of happiness, and an open door to opportunity and success.

The 2022 to 2026 members of Durham Region Council were sworn in this past year and I look forward to celebrating our many accomplishments of the year to come.
