Scugog Mayor asks for resident cooperation as township implements new COVID-19 regulations

DAN CEARNS, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, for The Standard

SCUGOG: Scugog’s Mayor is defending township staff, as the municipality continues to implement provincially created COVID-19 rules.

“These rules are constantly changing, and staff do their best to interpret the legislation and put the rules into action, to help protect the residents of Scugog. Scugog is legally required to follow the recommendations of the health unit, the ministry of health and the province,” Mayor Bobbie Drew said, at a meeting on Monday, September 27th.

She also commented on the recent provincial requirement to provide proof of vaccination, to enter and then stay in certain facilities, specifically at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre.

“These regulations set out parameters for who can and cannot enter the [Scugog Community Recreation Centre] without proof of full vaccination, and do not provide staff discretion in the application of the rules. There’s been a lot of anger related to this requirement to provide full vaccination [proof], and I ask the public to please treat our staff with respect and cooperation.”
