NORTH DURHAM: The Autumn season is here, and Thanksgiving is around the corner. To help struggling individuals and families have a good start to the season, residents are encouraged to donate to local food banks.

“We have been shopping weekly throughout the summer as it is always the slow time for food donations,” Karen Teed from Operation Scugog told The Standard.

She has a list of items that the food bank needs, including Cereal, Juice, Pudding cups, Peanut butter, Jam, Honey, Cheese whiz, Canned meat, Canned fruit, Instant coffee, Canned pasta, Canned tomatoes, chunky soup, Instant rice, Olive oil, Mayonnaise, Shampoo, Toilet paper, and Ensure or Boost.

Heather Stover from Loaves and Fishes Bank in Uxbridge also provided a list of preferred donation items. These include Canned pasta sauce, Juice (1L or juice boxes), Cold cereal, Granola bars, Canned chilli, Baked beans, Crackers, Boxes of macaroni and cheese, and Peanut butter.

The Brock Community Food Bank didn’t reply to a request for comment by press time.

Operation Scugog is located at 593 Alma Street in Port Perry, in a portable next to Victory Christian Centre. Loaves and Fishes Food Bank is located at 40B Toronto Street South, inside St. Andrew’s Chalmers Presbyterian Church.
