Port Perry PHARMASAVE Grand Opening

by Robin Van Der Vleuten

SCUGOG: Allison Gillis, owner/pharmacist of the new Port Perry Pharmasave, had a grand opening BBQ on July 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mayor Wilma Wotten and Councillors Janna Guido and Robert Rock welcomed Allison Gillis to our community, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Allison is very excited to be a part of this community. Her vision for Port Perry Pharmasave is focused on patients as a whole rather than just their medications.

The province plans to approve 17 more minor ailments which pharmacists can prescribe. In addition, Allison has currently partnered with a company called MedEssist, allowing her to collaborate directly with a nurse practitioner to provide authorization for prescriptions which she cannot prescribe such as birth control, shingles treatment, and diabetes supplies.

"My goal is to do more for local patients with non-emergency health concerns, many without doctors, with the only option being a trip to a long wait in the ER. Some services are covered by the Ontario government, and some are not. For everything outside my scope, I hope to offer MD Connected, a virtual clinic within my pharmacy where patients can speak with a prescriber. Unfortunately, these services are no longer covered in Ontario, which means an out-of-pocket payment."

Allison is excited to help residents get the best healthcare possible.
