DURHAM/KAWARTHA LAKES: There won’t be a provincial election in 2024, but a 2025 provincial election has yet to be ruled out.
At a press conference, on Tuesday, September 3rd, Ontario Premier Doug Ford was asked about the possibility of an autumn provincial election.
“We aren’t having an election this year, so we’re going to make sure we continue to focus on what the people of Ontario need,” Premier Ford said.
He affirmed, “good jobs, good healthcare, good education, and good infrastructure,” as focuses for the government going forward.
However, Premier Ford has given his MPPs and cabinet ministers a deadline, in December, to decide if they plan to run for re-election or not.
“You always have to be prepared. That’s what it comes down to. No matter which way you look at it, we’re never too far from an election, no matter if it is next year or the following year. We have to know where we’re moving and going and mak[e] sure we have good candidates,” the Premier explained.
