Ontario Helping to Keep Seniors Living with Dementia Safe

DURHAM: January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month in Canada, a time to raise awareness around the challenges people living with dementia experience. It’s also an opportunity to address the safety and security of seniors. The Ontario Government provides resources for programs and services that can help protect older Ontarians, who are vulnerable because of cognitive decline. The Alzheimer Society of Ontario’s Finding Your Way program offers tools and education for individuals and caregivers in up to 12 languages, to reduce the risk of someone with dementia wandering and going missing, while supporting a quick, safe return should an incident occur. “Many people in Durham are faced with the reality of living with a form of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s,” said Lindsey Park, Member of Provincial Parliament for Durham. “As a community, we have a responsibility to increase awareness in order to better support and protect the members of our society who live with these vulnerabilities.” .
