DURHAM/KAWARTHA LAKES: The Ontario government is proposing new rebates to be sent out to Ontario taxpayers and families with children in 2025.

The announcement was made by Premier Doug Ford and MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy, at a press conference, on Tuesday, October 29th.

“We’ve been hearing loud and clear from people across the province, they’re feeling the pinch. Today’s announcement is a huge acknowledgement about our prudent and responsible plan [which] is working. While inflation and interest rates have started to ease up and come down, workers and families, right across the province, are still feeling the high cost of groceries, the high cost of gas, the high cost of housing, and of course, the increasing federal carbon tax,” MPP Bethlenfalvy said.

An Ontario government press release stated, the government is proposing to “provide a $200 taxpayer rebate, to all eligible Ontario taxpayers,” and then also looking at providing “families with an additional $200, for each eligible child.”

“The government would begin mailing cheques to recipients, of the taxpayer rebate, in early 2025. A family of five, with two adults and three children, would receive $1,000, if eligible. In total, this rebate is expected to provide $3 billion in support, for approximately 12.5 million adults and 2.5 million children,” the release added.

Premier Ford noted, this initiative is being proposed because of the carbon tax “making life too costly for too many people.”

“Life is expensive right now,” he said. “Taxpayers are the best people to decide how to spend their money.”
