Nexus Coffee now serving both Uxbridge and Port Perry

DAN CEARNS The Standard

SCUGOG: In late October, four years to the day they opened their Uxbridge location, Nexus Coffee Company proudly opened a second store, in Port Perry. “I think the time was right. We looked at about three or four different markets to expand into. Port Perry was the clear next step for us to grow and expand our offering. The town has its own character and personality and I feel we’ve found a great location. Port Perry just had the right vibe,” owner Arthur Field told The Standard. The Port Perry Nexus Coffee location is at 263 Queen Street at the corner of Queen and John Street. Mr. Field praised the nearby business owners on Queen Street. “We have great neighbours,” he shared. Mr. Field added the Scugog community has really embraced Nexus Coffee since it opened. “People are very appreciative that we are here. I was very surprised and pleased with the amount of people I’d never seen before, or hadn’t seen in a while that knew we were here and were glad,” he said. “It’s really great when you watch people walk in for the first time. They look around and they love the space. The ambiance and decor we’ve got here is obviously garnering a positive response, and everybody loves what we have.” Nexus Coffee offers a large assortment of teas, pastries, locally made gelato and everything from drip coffees to specialty espresso based drinks. They also sell home brewing equipment. Mr. Field said Nexus is focused on consistency in the products they sell. “The drinks and the pastries are first and foremost. The coffees and teas, both hot and cold, and the quality and the care that goes into preparing them. We’re not trying to be a restaurant. We are very focused on what we do,” he said, adding people “should get same consistent quality” no matter when they visit. Mr. Field shared how he loves the personal feeling of operating in North Durham. “You can build relationships with your clientele. It gives us a chance to tell our story. It gives us a chance to learn from our customers, what they love about us or what they would like to see more of. It’s a wonderful opportunity for exchange,” he said. Nexus Coffee’s Uxbridge location is at 19 Brock Street, West.
