New berry full of anti-oxidants

NORTH DURHAM: Haskap are the delicious new berries emerging on the market. Originally from the wilds of northern Russian and Japan, this new berry has been developed by the University of Saskatchewan into a sweet-tart, nutrient dense berry, packed with Vitamin C and anti-oxidants.

One of the few farms in Canada currently growing Haskap berries is Sunderland’s Buzzing Bees Adventure Farm. Their U-Pick Haskap berry orchard opened its gates for the first time at the beginning of July. Due to an overwhelming demand, they are regretfully already sold out. Stephanie and Mike Smith are look forward to hosting all their amazing customers again next year!

The Smiths offer eight varieties of Haskap, allowing them to offer a variety of flavours which range from sweet to tart as well as varieties that ripen early and late allowing for a longer picking season.

While there, enjoy fun activities including pedal karts, elastic band shooting range and field bowling.

The farm will open again in the autumn featuring a 9-acre corn maze with an in-maze game & pumpkin patch. This year's corn maze game will be the Great Canadian Pioneer Challenge! The year is 1897 and you're heading to the new world of Canada. Solve Escape Room style puzzles to crack Aunt May's secrete directions to your new settlement on the best farmland in the west.

There is also a 1375 sq/ft Geodesic Dome, one of a kind green house and classroom which is available for educational tours and birthday party rentals. Personal tours are usually available upon request.

Buzzing Bees Adventure Farm also sells their own honey, maple syrup and haskap jam (sold out).
