NORTH DURHAM: Did you know September is National Hunger Action Month? The Region of Durham and many other communities will be collecting food and financial donations, during the month of September.

From September 5th until September 27th, you can make a non-perishable food or financial donation. Your donation can help the Region of Durham support Hunger Action Month.

All donations go toward Feed the Need in Durham Region. Participating municipalities include Scugog, Brock Township, and Uxbridge Township.

According to a press release, posted by the Township of Uxbridge, in late August, the demand for local services, such as the food bank, has “never been higher.”

Uxbridge residents are encouraged to make non-perishable food donations. You can make donations in Uxbridge at: Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, Pharmasave, Zehrs and the Trail Capital Pharmacy.

In Scugog, donations can be dropped off at: Operation Scugog, in Port Perry, located in the portable next to the Victory Christian Centre, the Municipal Office, the Scugog Community Recreation Centre and any of the Fire Stations located in Scugog.

Scugog fire station 1 is located in Port Perry. Scugog Fire station 2 is located in Caesarea .

For Brock residents, food donations can be dropped off at: the Brock Community Food Bank; the municipal administration office, in Cannington; the Sunderland Fire Hall; and any Brock Library or Brock Arena.

Please make sure food drop offs are during respective open hours.

Feed the Need is a food bank collection and distribution organization which provides emergency food to foodbanks, for over a decade, within the Durham Region. Each year, they distribute about 2.5 million pounds of food.

Every dollar donated allows Feed the Need in Durham Region to collect, store and distribute two meals and/or products to those in need.
