I can’t decide to laugh or cringe, any time I peruse the internet and watch random strangers teaching people to exercise. A majority of the information spread is incorrect, yet they have the nerve to present themselves as educated. I feel, as if, people buy in to the image of what they are seeing and don’t seem to question it. We encourage children not to take candy from strangers, so why would you take advice from one?

I’ve been in this industry for 25 years, as a professional. There is an inherent danger in taking advice from strangers you see on social media. Social media is a haven for misinformation, from people spewing half truths. The concept of “influencers” is a joke, to me. Most of the time they are selling a supplement or athletic gear. Let’s be honest, they are selling an image.

The only influence I ever had was my mother and she taught me everything I know about exercise. I didn’t read magazines or even look on the internet because it wasn’t something I needed to do. I never felt compelled to follow people and be like everyone else.

Exercise is really not that complicated. There’s no special supplement which will give you your dream body. There’s no “best exercise program for fat loss.” These trends change like the wind, and whatever is fashionable is what people follow. Stop being a follower and tune in to yourself.

Eating well is imperative to success. The first thing I recommend is making small, gradual changes. Incorporate a little bit of movement into your day and gradually increase it as your fitness level increases.

Here’s the cold hard truth, you need to put in the work, if you want results.
