DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: The Port Perry MoJacks came out of their weekend slate of games with a win and a loss.

On Saturday, February 12th, the MoJacks faced the North Kawartha Knights. The first period was decidedly in the Knights’ favour, as they scored the first three goals of the game, putting Port Perry behind 3-0. But, with 44 seconds remaining in the frame, Marcus Arabe scored, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

A minute and a half into the second period, Arabe scored his second goal of the game. Then, late in the period, the MoJacks tied the game with Dale Faubert’s second goal of the season.

However, North Kawartha scored four consecutive goals in the third period, and the MoJacks lost 7-3.

Port Perry was able to get a win the next day though, Sunday, February 13th, at Scugog Arena, when facing the Georgina Ice.

It was a heated first period, with several penalties called against both sides. 12 minutes into the period, Nick Chokrev-Cerpnjak used some slick moves to deke the puck past Georgina’s goaltender, giving Port Perry a 1-0 lead. About two and a half minutes later, Justin Jacobs scored, increasing the MoJacks’ lead to 2-0. 25 seconds after that, Cameron Marshall buried a Brayden Roberts rebound, extending the lead to 3-0.

Just 20 seconds into the second period, the Ice cut the deficit to 3-1 with a goal. But the MoJacks responded 22 seconds later with Marshall’s second goal of the game, giving them back a three-goal lead.

With four and a half minutes left in the third period, Cody Bricknell would secure the win with the final goal of the game. Port Perry defeated Georgina 5-1. Goaltender Samuel Moncada got his first win as a member of the MoJacks.

One Timers: The MoJacks’ next game at Scugog Arena is this Sunday, February 20th, when they host the Lakefield Chiefs. Puck drop is at 2:25 p.m.
