SCUGOG: People will witness some of the indigenous peoples’ culture this weekend when the 23rd annual Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation Pow Wow is held on Scugog Island. The annual Pow Wow will take place on Saturday, July 20th and Sunday, July 21st on the Pow Wow grounds at 22521 Island Road. This year’s theme is Oshkii Bimaadziwin, which translates to New Beginnings. Both mornings of the event there will be a sunrise ceremony. They will hold the Grand Entry on both days at noon. Women are asked, to wear long skirts for the sunrise ceremony. No alcohol, drugs or pets will be allowed on the grounds. There will be over 40 craft and food vendors at the event. The entrance fee is $5 for people aged 12 to 64 years, $2 for people ages three to 11 years old and at or above 65 years of age, and children two years and under get in free.
