Lumberjacks win two of their last three games

DAN CEARNS The Standard

After losing their first three games of the season, the Port Perry Lumberjacks have now won two of their last three games.

On Thursday, September 26th, the Lumberjacks visited Caledon for a game against the Golden Hawks.

Caledon would gain the early upper hand, scoring the first goal of the game about seven minutes into the first period. But, a little over five minutes later, Mac Connelly scored his first goal of the season, tying the game 1-1.

Over two and a half minutes into the second period, Connelly scored again, putting the Lumberjacks ahead 2-1. Then, six minutes into the period, Austin Fata put the puck in the net, making it a 3-1 game. Kyle Bailey would add a goal late in the period, and the Lumberjacks led 4-1.

A bit over three minutes into the third period, Bailey would score again. However, the Golden Hawks would make an impressive comeback later, scoring four straight times to force overtime.

Just 59 seconds into that frame, Cameron Marshall scored the game-winning goal, giving the Lumberjacks a 5-4 victory.

The Lumberjacks didn’t fare the same when they visited Schomberg for a game against the Cougars on Saturday, September 28th.

Eight minutes into the first period, Marshall capitalized on a power play to make it a 1-0 game. But, the Cougars scored twice later in the period.

The Cougars would add three goals in the first half of the second period, making it a 5-1 game. 10 and a half minutes in, Connelly cut the deficit to 5-2 with a goal. But goals 11 and a half minutes in and nearly 15 minutes in put Port Perry behind 7-2. Kyle Robillard scored late in the period to make it a 7-3 game.

Both teams would trade goals late in the third period. 18 and a half minutes in, Cooper Hodgins scored a shorthanded goal. But only 20 seconds later, the Cougars would score, and the Lumberjacks lost 8-4.

The next day, Sunday, September 29th, the Lumberjacks hosted their rival, the Uxbridge Bruins, at Scugog Arena.

Seven minutes into the first period, Andrew Naccarato-Soule got the Lumberjacks the first lead of the game with a goal.

Nearly 12 and a half minutes into the second period, Braedyn Vannetten scored, extending the lead to 2-0. Five and a half minutes later, Jacob Sharpe would add a power play goal, making it a 3-0 game. However, two Bruins goals late in the period cut the lead to just a difference of one goal.

Over four minutes into the third period, Jack Staniland extended the lead to 4-2 with a goal. Then, 11 minutes in, Naccarato-Soule scored his second of the game. The Bruins would later score a power play goal, but the Lumberjacks held on to win the game 5-3.

One Timers: - The Lumberjacks open their October action with a game in Georgina on Friday, October 4th against the Ice. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

- Their next home game at Scugog Arena is a rematch against the Bruins on Sunday, October 6th at 2:25 p.m.

It's nice to see that the Lumberjacks are starting to show a steady game and have won two of their last three matches. By the way, if you are looking for entertainment outside of sports, I advise you to pay attention to tombstone rip slot - a great slot that will add adrenaline after watching matches, because sports and gambling are the perfect combination for thrill-seekers.
