The Port Perry Lumberjacks scored a decisive win over the Caledon Golden Hawks in a game on Sunday, January 5th at Scugog Arena.
The game didn’t start off the way the Lumberjacks would have hoped. Just under a minute and a half into the period, the Golden Hawks took advantage of Lumberjacks goaltender Daniel Giusti being down and put the puck into the open cage. However, just a minute and a half later, Kyle Bailey scored, tying the game at 1-1. Then, with less than seven minutes remaining in the frame, Zach Caron sniped the puck past the Caledon goaltender to make it a 2-1 game. Then, with a little over five minutes left on the clock, Bailey put the puck through the goaltender’s legs for his second goal of the game.
The Lumberjacks dominated the second period. Less than three minutes in, Jack Staniland received a perfect pass in front of the net from Kyle Den Ouden and slapped the puck into the net, giving Port Perry a 4-1 lead. Just 17 seconds later, Parker Lemay added to the lead with a goal. Less than seven minutes in, Kyle Bailey scored another goal that squeaked through the Caledon goaltender’s legs to complete the hat trick. Kyle Robillard would score a power play goal later in the period, and the Lumberjacks led 7-1 after 40 minutes of play.
The goals kept coming in the third period. In the first three minutes, Cameron Marshall scored back to back goals, extending the lead to 9-1. Over eight and a half minutes in, Bailey scored his fourth goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Charlie Paton scored, making it an 11-1 game. Cooper Hodgins and Hodgins would each score 30 seconds apart past the halfway mark of the period. Caledon would strike 13 minutes into the period, but Andrew Naccarato-Soule added a goal late in the period, and the Lumberjacks won 14-2.
