SCUGOG: The Port Perry Lumberjacks lost in their bid for redemption against the Schomberg Cougars at Scugog Arena on Sunday, January 19th.
Coming off of a 6-1 loss to the Cougars in their last game, on January 9th, the Lumberjacks were looking to even out the series.
Power plays would play a role in the first-period action. Over a minute into the game, after the Lumberjacks took a penalty just 30 seconds in, the Cougars scored on the power play to make it 1-0. But, three minutes later, Jack Staniland would capitalize on a Lumberjacks power play, tying the game 1-1. With a little over a minute left in the period, the Cougars scored, restoring the one-goal deficit.
Despite outshooting the Cougars 19 to 8 in the second period, the Cougars would be the only team to score in the frame. Less than four minutes in, the Cougars struck to extend the deficit to 3-1. Over a minute and a half later, the Cougars found twine again, making it a 4-1 game.
A bit under a minute and a half into the third period, Cameron Marshall scored on the power play. This brought the game to a 4-2 score. But, with less than two minutes remaining on the clock, the Cougars would put the game out of reach with a 5-2 goal. That would end up being the final score.
