Lumberjacks finish February with a couple of losses

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: The Port Perry Lumberjacks lost their latest game against the Uxbridge Bruins by the slim margin of a one-goal difference.

The game was held at Scugog Arena on Sunday, February 26th. The Lumberjacks controlled play for much of the first period, getting the game's first nine shots. Fifty-two seconds into the period, Quinn Arnott scored the game's first goal, giving Port Perry an early 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Jacob Lemere fired a pass from behind the Uxbridge net to Mark Stoop, who deposited the puck in the net, expanding the lead to 2-0. But, a little over six minutes into the period, the Bruins scored, making it a 2-1 game.

Three and a half minutes into the second period, Dale Faubert scored to restore Port Perry's two-goal lead. The game remained at that score until late in the period. With just 15 seconds remaining on the clock, the Bruins put the puck in the net, making it a 3-2 game.

Then, nearly 11 and a half minutes into the third period, the Bruins scored the game-tying goal. Less than eight and a half minutes later, the Bruins finished the comeback by scoring the game-winning goal. The Lumberjacks lost 4-3.

Before this game, the Lumberjacks came off a loss to the Little Britain Merchants on Saturday, February 25th.

The Merchants scored twice in the first few minutes of the game, putting the Lumberjacks behind 2-0. But, about six and a half minutes in, Braedyn Vannetten scored, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Merchants would add a goal later in the period, and Port Perry trailed 3-1 after the first 20 minutes of gameplay.

Two and a half minutes into the second period, Little Britain added to their lead with a goal. A little over a minute later, the Merchants struck again, putting Port Perry behind 5-1.

The Merchants would add three more goals in the third period, and the Lumberjacks lost 8-1.

One Timers:

- Prior to the start of the game against the Uxbridge Bruins, the Lumberjacks made a donation of $10,200 to the Lakeridge Health Foundation. The proceeds were raised from their 'Hockey Battles Cancer' game held at Scugog Arena earlier this month.

- Just two games remain for the Lumberjacks on their regular season schedule. The Lumberjacks will hold a rare Thursday home game at Scugog Arena on March 2nd. They will host the North Kawartha Knights, and the game will begin at 7:25 p.m. Every paid admission will receive a free hot dog.

- The Lumberjacks complete their regular season schedule on Saturday, March 4th, in Little Britain against the Merchants. That game begins at 7:30 p.m.
