DAN CEARNS The Standard

The Port Perry Lumberjacks lost two close and high scoring games this past weekend.

The Lumberjacks paid their rival, the Uxbridge Bruins, a visit on Friday, December 15th. The Bruins would strike for three goals in the first period, putting Port Perry behind 3-0.

However, just 48 seconds into the second period, Braedyn Vannetten scored a shorthanded goal, cutting the deficit to 3-1. A minute and a half into the period, the Bruins would restore the three-goal lead with a goal. Then, over 10 minutes in, Uxbridge struck again to make it a 5-1 game. Before the period ended, Mark Stoop capitalized on a Lumberjacks power play to keep the Lumberjacks in the game.

Four minutes into the third period, Parker Lemay scored a power play goal, making it a 5-3 game. Then, nearly 12 minutes into the period, Mac Connelly scored, cutting the deficit to a one goal difference. However, that is as close as the Lumberjacks would get as their comeback falls short 5-4.

The Lumberjacks looked for some redemption in a game against the Georgina Ice on Sunday, December 17th at Scugog Arena.

Less than three and a half minutes in, the Ice scored the first goal of the game. But nine and a half minutes later, Johannes Kalm tied the game with a goal.

A little over seven minutes into the second period, Georgina got their lead back with a goal. But, four minutes later, Tanner Bricknell tied the game at 2-2. Georgina would score two goals shortly afterwards, and the Lumberjacks trailed the game 4-2. Zach Caron scored late in the period to cut the score to 4-3.

Caron scored his second goal of the game over seven minutes into the third period, knotting the game up 4-4. But, with a bit over six minutes remaining in the game, the Ice scored a power play goal. They would add an empty net goal with just 11 seconds left in the period, and the Lumberjacks lost the game 6-4.
