KAWARTHA LAKES: With slightly more than two years remaining in the current term of council, some members have recently been appointed to appointments on different boards and committees around the city.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, the City of Kawartha Lakes held a council meeting during which the Council Appointments report was presented and received. A series of key appointments for councillors were approved, set to last until the end of the current term of Council, which concludes on November 14th, 2026. These appointments will help guide the work of various municipal committees and boards throughout the city.
The following council members received appointments: Councillor Tracy Richardson was appointed to the Kawartha Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee, Councillor Ron Ashmore was named to both the Planning Advisory Committee and the Victoria Manor Committee of Management, Councillor Dan Joyce was appointed to the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit Board, Councillor Charlie McDonald will serve on the Kawartha Lakes Police Service Board, and Councillor Mike Perry was assigned to the OPP Board.
An important development during the meeting was the amendment of the Terms of Reference for two key committees: the Victoria Manor Committee of Management and the Planning Advisory Committee. The changes allow for an increase in the number of councillors on each committee, raising their composition to four council members per committee. This move is expected to enhance decision-making and ensure broader representation in managing critical aspects of city planning and heritage.
Additionally, the council approved the extension of several appointments that were previously set to end in 2024, ensuring they continue through to the end of the term. Councillor Emmett Yeo's term on the Committee of Adjustment was extended. Councillor Mike Perry's appointment to the Fenelon Cemetery Board was also prolonged.
These appointments reflect the council's commitment to maintaining experienced oversight and strong leadership across key areas of the municipality. They are crucial for advancing the city's heritage, planning, and public service goals over the coming years.
The next term of Council will officially begin on November 15th, 2026.
