KAWARTHA LAKES: The 30th annual Jeff Beukeboom golf tournament was held at Black Diamond Golf Club, in Pontypool, on Thursday, August 1st, this year.

Those that attended the tournament where treated to a lunch beforehand, dinner after, as well as silent and live auctions.

The tournament annually raises funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes Foundation. In the last 29 years, the tournament has raised over $759,462 for the local charity. The bookkeeper is still working on how much was raised at this year's event.

“It’s incredible. This is our longest-running but also our largest single fundraiser for the foundation each year. If you think about how the money is used, it is used to subsidize our programming, so our fees are very low, for anyone participating, and to give struggling families full subsidies, so there are zero barriers for particip[ants],” Boys and Girls Club executive director Amy Terrill told The Standard.

Boyer Chevrolet in Lindsay has sponsored the event for the last 30 years.

“The Boys and Girls Club, to me, is just such an important part because it drives the kids for the future and takes care of the kids. That has a special part in my heart,” Brandon Boyer said.

Mr. Boyer also received the Medal of Appreciation Keystone Award from the club, in 2022, for his support of this tournament.

“It was very flattering and completely shocking at the same time. It was unexpected. It’s really nice to receive some recognition. To me, supporting this tournament has never been in question. We’ve always enjoyed it. It’s always been run so well. It’s for such a great cause,” Mr. Boyer said.

“The Standard News is please to give back to our community by supporting the BGC Kawarthas. We have been their media sponsor for the last nine years. For us it is a personal connection. One of our staff used the BGC's Lindsay After School program for her two daughters. It was a really great support for her family while she was working and her husband was attending Fleming College.” shared Colleen Green, Publisher of The Standard News.
