KAWARTHA LAKES: The annual Jeff Beukeboom golf tournament is returning to Wolf Run Golf Club, in Janetville, early next month for its 28th year.
This year’s tournament will be held on Thursday, August 4th, and will be returning to its old format of a shotgun start at Noon, lunch beforehand, dinner after, as well as silent and live auctions.
The tournament annually raises funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes Foundation. In the last 27 years, the tournament has raised over $672,900 for the local charity.
“It’s incredible. This is our longest-running but also our largest single fundraiser for the foundation each year. If you think about how the money is used, it is used to subsidize our programming, so our fees are very low, for anyone participating, and to give struggling families full subsidies, so there are zero barriers for particip[ants],” Boys and Girls Club executive director Amy Terrill told The Standard.
The fee to take part is $175 per golfer, and there are still a small number of spots available for interested golfers.
“If there’s anybody out there who wants to play, they should contact us this week or next week,” Ms. Terrill stressed.
Boyer Chevrolet in Lindsay has sponsored the event for the last 17 years.
“The Boys and Girls Club, to me, is just such an important part because it drives the kids for the future and takes care of the kids. That has a special part in my heart,” Brandon Boyer said.
Mr. Boyer also recently received the Medal of Appreciation Keystone Award from the club, for his support of this tournament.
“It was very flattering and completely shocking at the same time. It was unexpected. It’s really nice to receive some recognition. To me, supporting this tournament has never been in question. We’ve always enjoyed it. It’s always been run so well. It’s for such a great cause,” Mr. Boyer said.
