Ivo Finotti to run for Ward 5 seat in Scugog

DAN CEARNS, The Standard

SCUGOG: Port Perry resident Ivo Finotti is running to be Scugog’s next Ward 5 Councillor.

Mr. Finotti registered to be on the municipal ballot the day nominations opened, on Monday, May 2nd.

“I love Port Perry. There’s something special here, and I hope we can preserve it for future generations. I want to be part of a council which leads and builds back better post [COVID-19], and grows Port Perry and Scugog,” Mr. Finotti told The Standard. “Growth is going to happen, no matter what we do. The question is, can we preserve the community we have? I’m listening to people, and they have concerns about transparency, accountability, safety, [and] communication.”

Mr. Finotti stressed, the main component of his job, if elected, would be listening to the residents he would represent.

“The only thing I can do is make sure my constituents are heard,” he said. “I’ll listen to everybody. I’ll dialogue with everybody and make sure we build a strong team on Council to move this Township forward.”

Mr. Finotti has served as an organizer for the annual Port Perry Walk for Dog Guides. He stated, he has focused on finding ways for everybody to win his whole life. This is new territory for Mr. Finotti, but a decision he felt he had to make.

“I never thought I would be in politics. I never wanted to be in politics. But at the same time, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem,” he explained.

The municipal election will be held this October.
