UXBRIDGE: Thank you Uxbridge Community, you’ve done it again! Once again this year your spirit of giving will be an encouragement to the children and community of Weagamow. The Uxbridge arena was the drop-off location (thank you arena staff). The results of your generosity included 25 bags of hockey equipment, 100 pounds of sticks, 23 new sport coats (thank you Uxbridge Motorsports), a team set of new hockey gloves (thank you Coach Bricknell from the Central Ontario Wolves), and a brand new skate sharpener! Thank you, Wayne and Terri (and Canadian Tire) who worked tirelessly to sharpen all the skates for immediate use when we arrive, and to Baldwin Sales for an array of trophies and medals. A special shout out to John Dion, son of St. Mary (Pickering) Coach Dion, long time Tigers rival, who is the next generation to embrace the Hope Through Hockey challenge, gathering some great equipment to donate this year! An exciting new element involved an incredible pre-Christmas gift from the Ontario Produce Marketing Association of a 45 pound box of fresh produce – fruit and vegetables for every household in Weagamow. On December 21st a member of our team, Tiffany Meek, flew to Weagamow to assist Michelle Broom, President of the OPMA who had chartered an aircraft to fly in the delivery of 240 boxes totaling over 10,000 pounds! What a lovely “Christmas gift” to this community were the cost of fresh produce is prohibitive. Thank you to everyone at OPMA and friends who made this possible and to Neil Bacon Auctions who made this connection in the first place. The 2019 Team, seventh year, departed on December 27th. The first day included an equipment exchange. Once everyone was outfitted our team held hockey clinics and skills training with a new power skating option this year. Their week ended with a community tournament on New Year’s day.
