KAWARTHA LAKES: The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour is coming to Lindsay this weekend.
The weekly hockey program sees hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone visit local communities across Canada while also broadcasting an NHL hockey game nationally.
The Tour will be in Lindsay on Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 24th. The live broadcast of a Toronto Maple Leaf game will then take place on Monday, October 25th.
“This is exciting news for Kawartha Lakes. We have a long history of hockey in our communities across Kawartha Lakes, from minor hockey to NHL alumni, and Hometown Hockey is a chance for us to come together safely to cheer on our team and enjoy a two-day festival. The outdoor viewing party in downtown Lindsay will show off our newly reconstructed core.
I look forward to Hockey Night in Canada fans getting a glimpse of the spirit we have here in Kawartha Lakes,” Mayor Andy Letham said in a statement.
A Kawartha Lakes press release stated the celebration will “feature a full weekend of hockey-themed activities, local vendors and live entertainment. All in compliance with local and provincial health regulations.” Requirements for entry into the festival “will include proof of full vaccination, mandatory face masks, social distancing, touchless activations, digital ticketing, contact tracing and health questionnaires.” The Rogers Hometown Hockey website explains how successful this longtime initiative has been.
“Since 2014, Rogers Hometown Hockey has been a celebration of hockey and community visiting over 130 towns across Canada.
We’re proud to bring the magic of the NHL to communities across Canada with a two-day weekend festival and a live NHL broadcast on Sportsnet from your community.”
Earlier this month, the City of Kawartha Lakes announced the Lindsay Recreation Complex’s façade will feature photos of local hockey players from both the past and the present for the occasion.
“Kawartha Lakes residents are being invited to join in on the fun and have an opportunity to have their hockey card photo featured on the building. Local hometown hockey players, past and present, are being asked to submit a copy of their hockey card (the one that usually comes with the team/individual photo packages) to the Kawartha Lakes Parks, Recreation and Culture Division for an opportunity to be featured in the design concept,” a Kawartha Lakes press release stated.
On Saturday, October 23rd, there will be a meet and greet with Little Britain Merchants’ players. Free public skating is planned to take place at the Lindsay Recreation Complex all weekend.
