SCUGOG: Hockey fans, mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 30, as Scugog Arena hosts “Hockey Night in Port Perry,” an action-packed evening in support of Oak Ridges Hospice. The charity event promises a thrilling lineup, featuring NHL Alumni and renowned hockey legends, all hitting the ice for a cause which touches the entire community.
The evening kicks off with doors opening at 6 p.m., followed by the main game at 7 p.m. Both players and spectators have a chance to get involved: aspiring players can fundraise or pay to secure their spot alongside hockey icons, while fans can purchase tickets to catch all the action live. With intermission games, commentary from a professional announcer, and a VIP reception, including an exclusive Q&A with the stars, it’s set to be a memorable night for hockey lovers of all ages.
The lineup is already packed with Hockey Hall of Famers, including the likes of Eric Lindros, Geraldine Heaney, Angela James, Shayne Corson, and Mike Krushelnyski. Last week, former Maple Leafs forward, Nik Antropov was added to the roster. The organizers are expecting more celebrity participants to join in, making the event an even bigger draw. Funds raised will go directly to Oak Ridges Hospice, Durham Region’s only hospice residence, where patients receive compassionate, end-of-life care at no cost to families.
At their meeting, on Monday, November 4th, members of council pledged their support for the event, when they voted to waive the ice rental costs for the evening, following a presentation from Christine Vos, the Executive Director of the Oak Ridges Hospice.
“Thank you, (Oak Ridges Hospice) for everything you provide for this community,” commented, Ward 2 Councillor, Janna Guido. “I’m sure, by this point, almost everyone has been impacted by what you offer. I’m happy to support this event, and think it will be a great evening.”
Whether you’re a player, eager to skate alongside hockey legends, or a fan, looking to cheer on your favourite stars, “Hockey Night in Port Perry” is an opportunity to celebrate Canada’s beloved sport and support a vital community cause.
