I’m so excited June is here now! Beautiful weather means getting out there and enjoying the sunshine. I thought I’d give you some insight into how I’ve been spending my time, staying physically and mentally active.
Gardening: Between lifting and moving heavy pots, shovelling dirt and watering plants, there is always something to do in the garden. It keeps my strength up and allows me to get my recommended 10,000 steps. Still, always exert caution! I’ve learned the hard way, if you can’t lift it, then don’t. Lift what you can safely, and get some help with loads you can’t manage on your own. There’s something very peaceful about being in nature. It’s a sense of connection and calm; I have a hand in watching something grow and develop. There’s no technology and no distraction.
Painting a Picture: When doing this, you are using your brain, which is a very unique muscle! The benefit of creativity allows the brain to learn new patterns. This opens pathways to creativity. Let your imagination run free. I’ve read, using the creative side awakens a part of the brain which is often dormant. This allows your brain to grow new cells and create new connections beneficial for long-term brain health.
If you talk to any artist, they’ll tell you how calm and peaceful painting is. I can tell you from personal experience, it is my peaceful place. If you’re looking for a way to calm your anxious mind, I highly recommended unleashing your creativity. These are just a couple of examples of how I’m keeping my mind and body active.
What is good for the body is good for the mind and vice versa. No matter what helps you stay active, keep at it!
