DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard
BROCK: The Brock Township Public Library is kicking off the new year with an array of engaging programs designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and connection across its branches. From hands-on workshops for tweens to family-friendly STEAM adventures, there’s something for everyone this January.
At the Beaverton Branch, tweens in Grades 6 and up can take part in Tween Takeover, a four-week program offering an introduction to exciting tools like sewing machines, button makers, and coding robots. Participants will work on unique projects while learning new skills. The program runs every Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.
Over at the Sunderland Branch, families can dive into the world of STEAM with a Family STEAM Program. This hands-on adventure, ideal for children ages 3 to 8 but open to all ages, invites kids and their caregivers to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math together. Sessions will take place on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7 p.m., beginning January 9th and running until February 27th. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to learn and play together,” said Katie-Scarlett MacGillivray, Chief Executive Officer for the Library.
For book lovers, the Sunderland Branch is hosting a discussion on Rachel Joyce’s The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry on January 25th from 10 to 11 a.m. “This is a drop-in event, and we’re always excited to welcome new faces to our book club,” said Ms. MacGillivray.
Genealogy enthusiasts can head to the Cannington Branch for Genealogy Drop-In sessions on January 28th and February 25th from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Participants will have access to resources like Ancestry.ca and can receive hands-on assistance with their research. “Whether you’re just starting or diving deeper into your family history, our team is here to help,” added Ms. MacGillivray.
