A wish for a Happy and Healthy New year to all our readers.
We hope your Christmas Season was a Special time with your family and friends.
It’s hard to say goodbye to our Grandkids returning to college and back home to Wisconsin.
The recent snow has made travelling a little difficult but it was a great time on Saturday visiting at the Barkey farm to view their exceptional herd and wish the matriarch Donna a very happy 85th birthday with good health and happiness for the future.
We truly enjoyed a Sunday afternoon visit at Fred and Marg VanUdens with James and Thelma Houghland, figuring out how the world ticks. We still don’t know but it was a fun time.
Church on Sunday, January 22nd at Epsom, will be start at 10:30 a.m., with an invitation for you to join in worship and later fellowship together.
An amazing insightful poem or rhyme created by Gail Kerry our Utica friend.
On the first Christmas the angel of the Lord said
“Fear not, for I bring you tidings of great joy”.
“Angel” is way above my pay scale.
I only know what I’ve heard on the street so here goes......
As Christmas is near and I pause to reflect
on the year that has passed and what to expect,
I wonder what kind of world we’ve become
- some days it would seem it’s becoming undone.
The “m” in a million has turned into a “b”.
Why are the past wrongs all blamed on me?
There’s so much debt – are we all on the take?
We can’t tell if news is real or it’s fake.
Countries attacking the people next door,
exploiting their neighbours so they can have more.
Cruel bullies and thieves prey in cyberspace
causing hurt and pain while hiding their face.
Poor mental health is on the rise,
but not everyone can win first prize.
Is the work ethic gone? Is life just too hard?
If I don’t like my hand, I demand a new card!
There are fires and floods, the climate’s gone mad.
This year is the hottest that we’ve ever had.
And just when we think we can’t take anymore,
the media tells us there’s plenty in store.
How soon we forget just how lucky we are.
Just look back in time and not even too far. Each generation enjoys it surely would seem,
a lifestyle that once was their forefathers’ dream.
Jesus was born in a world very cruel
– oppression and hard times were life as the rule.
But centuries on, His example’s the same
- to make our world better and act in His name.
Looking around I see nothing but hope
- science and knowledge will help us to cope.
Love and good values will always be near
to bring joy and comfort in times when we fear.
“Do unto others” is still ringing true,
so a smile or a hug and a kind word or two
Can change someone’s world in a powerful way
and you may never know what it meant on that day.
Family and friends and the love that we share
are the strength that sustains us throughout every care.
And you are a part of our wonderful story,
each day of the year and amid Christmas glory.
So when things go awry in the coming New Year,
treasure the people you hold very dear,
And take little steps to make somebody’s day,
a little bit better in your unique way.
We can’t fix the problems all over the place,
so just make your world a gentler place,
And I’ll think of you as you think of me,
being the best we can possibly be.
