Epsom & Utica news

by Faye Ashton

It's rare to get into November without any snow falling. We've been blessed with a perfect Fall. How can this month of October be over so soon? November can be dreary and unpredictable but let's enjoy each day and give thanks for all the beauty around us.

I want to make a correction in wording from last weeks news. We are saddened to report the passing of Bill Anderson on Sunday, October 20th. Bill was married to his wife, Deanna (deceased), and he left behind their children, Lisa and David, to mourn his passing. A celebration of Life to honour Bill will take place on Saturday, November 30th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Epsom United Church, north of the 4 corners in Epsom

So many from this community knew Hugh Baird, Greenbank, who passed away on Friday, October 25th. We send our love and sympathy to Hugh's wife, Roberta, and family and wish them comfort at this time.

We also received word of the untimely passing of Robert Smith of Prospect on Saturday, October 26th. We send our deepest sympathy and love to Robert's wife and family at this saddest time. Robert's ability to raise and care for one of the best Holstein herd in this area will be felt throughout Ontario in the Holstein community. We will truly miss you Robert.

The Epsom Girls enjoyed time together chatting, catching up and eating at Fico Fusion in Port Perry this past Friday. Memories from days past are always shared if we can remember all the details now.

On Saturday, Darlene Christie had a wonderful, raucous, joy-filled afternoon visit with seven of the Chalk Lake School "kids" she first met when she began teaching 66 years ago. Many thanks to our amazing hosts, Elin & Ian McLuren, Chalk Lake.Join the congregation at Epsom United Church for worship at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, with Rev. Edith Ann presiding. Fellowship to follow.

Our community sends condolences to the family of Joan Woods who passed away on October 23rd. Joan's late husband Manson was a student at Epsom Public School in his youth. The Durham West 4H Go For The Gold youth had their day at the Royal Winter Fair on Saturday, where they were participants with five other 4H groups from Ontario for the title. However, they didn't bring home the prize. They did DurhamWest proud. We send our sympathy to Dorothy Munro and their Family in the passing of Dorothy's cousin. Nancy Prentice.
