DURHAM: The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) has been named one of the top 300 employers in Canada, by Forbes.
The global media company released their list on Tuesday, January 21st, with the local school board ranking 116th on the list.
“We are incredibly proud to be named to the Forbes list of Best Employers in Canada, for the second consecutive year,” Gerard Winn, the DCDSB Director of Education said, in a statement. “This recognition reflects our commitment to creating and maintaining a supportive and dynamic work environment, for our dedicated staff. We will continue to strive towards ensuring employees are welcomed to a positive learning and working environment, as we look to expand and diversify our workforce. Through the efforts and passion of our entire staff, we can continue to provide exceptional Catholic education for our students in Durham Region.”
In her own statement, Monique Forster, the Chair of the DCDSB Board of Trustees, praised the work staff do.
“Through the collective efforts of our staff, our union partners, and our leadership, we are able to provide exceptional working and learning environments. When our staff feel supported, welcomed and respected, they are empowered to provide excellent learning opportunities for our students, as we aim to support faith and well-being, advance human rights and equity, and improve student learning.”
In the article on their website, Forbes explained how they come up with this list.
“To determine the ranking, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista, to survey more than 40,000 Canada-based employees working for companies and institutions which employ at least 500 individuals within Canada. Survey respondents, who remained anonymous so they could answer freely, were asked if they would recommend their employer to others and to rate it based on a range of criteria. [These criteria included] salary, work flexibility, training programs and opportunities to advance. Participants were also asked if they would recommend their previous employers, [from] within the past two years, and those employers they knew through their experience in the industry or through friends or family who worked there.”
