DURHAM/KAWARTHA LAKES: Ontarians will indeed be going to the polls, for an early provincial election.
At a press conference, on Friday, January 24th, Ontario’s Premier confirmed he will be making an announcement this week, calling a province wide election to get a new mandate.
“We will be calling the election next Wednesday. I will be seeing the Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday,” Premier Ford said.
He then explained why the province is going to be going to the polls, despite the current majority government.
“We need a mandate from the people to fight against Donald Trump’s tariffs, the attack that’s coming against our families, our businesses, our communities. With a strong mandate, we will be able to fight with Donald Trump, to make sure we stop the tariffs, and make sure we give certainty to the people of Ontario.”
Premier Ford was asked if calling this election is an admission he’s lost the confidence of the people of Ontario.
“Right now, there is a lack of leadership at the federal level, and at the federal level we don’t know who’s going to be the next Prime Minister. Right now, we need strong leadership in this country, we need strong leadership in this province, and we’re going to deliver that strong leadership for the people of Ontario.”
He noted, the “choice people are going to have, over the next 30 days, will affect every aspect of their life and their [children’s] lives and their grandchildren’s lives for the next 20 to 30 years.”
