Port Perry’s Ty Dellandrea will be competing against the top junior hockey players from across the country next week as part of the selection process for Team Canada at the 2020 World Junior Hockey Championship.
Dellandrea was among the 43 players named by Hockey Canada who will wear the Maple Leaf at Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp, taking place July 27th to August 4th in Plymouth, Mich.
The Port Perry native and former Uxbridge S.S. student was selected by the Dallas Stars 13th overall in the 2018 NHL draft after spending two seasons with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL following an outstanding minor hockey career split between Port Perry and the Central Ontario Wolves.
Last season with Flint, Dellandrea scored 63 points (22 goals and 41 assists) in 60 games. Following the OHL season, Dellandrea appeared in 11 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars.
The five goaltenders, 13 defensemen and 25 forwards attending the Team Canada camp will be split into two teams–Red and White. The Canadians will play four games in Plymouth, taking on the United States twice in addition to singles against Finland and Sweden.
The Team Canada staff will continue to monitor the athletes through the start of the 2019-20 season ahead of Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp and the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic.
“We’re very pleased with the group that will be brought together in Plymouth,” Shawn Bullock, director of men’s national teams said in a press release. “This is a development opportunity for some of the younger athletes, and it’s a great opportunity for our coaching staff and players to start developing a solid relationship ahead of the World Juniors.”
