DDSB Elects Chair and Committee Membership for 2022

DURHAM: At the Board Meeting of the Durham District School Board (DDSB) held on Monday, December 6th, 2021, Trustees elected a Chairperson and committee members for 2022.

Throughout 2021, Trustees have successfully come together to continue their important role in providing stability in public education during a period of continued change and provincial directions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. With an emphasis on collaboration and being responsive to the needs of students, staff and community members, Trustees have been steadfast in providing support for the system. The Board’s commitment to Indigenous education and human rights and equity in the interest of all students in the District continues to be a key focus as we enter 2022.

The December 6th meeting included the re-election of Chair Carolyn Morton, Trustee for the Townships of Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge, as well as:

•Christine Thatcher – Trustee, Town of Whitby – Vice-Chair of the Board •Patrice Barnes – Trustee, Town of Ajax (Wards 1 & 2) – Vice-Chair of Standing Committee •Donna Edwards – Trustee, Town of Ajax (Ward 3) – Chair of the Education Finance Committee A complete list of Board Committees and Trustee Liaisons can be found on the DDSB’s website at https://www.ddsb.ca/en/about-ddsb/resources/Documents/Trustee-Committee-Membership.pdf.

“As Trustees, we are committed to ensuring students and staff have the resources needed to achieve success across all learning and working environments. I look forward to continuing this important work with my fellow Trustees, including the significant strides our Board is making to incorporate Indigenous rights, human rights and equity as part of a school system that prioritizes student learning, well-being and achievement through strong policies and actions,” said Carolyn Morton, re-elected Chair of the Board and Trustee for the Townships of Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge.
