Over 20,000 children and 12,000 families in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock are potentially eligible to benefit from the Child Tax Benefit program introduced by the Liberal Government. To date, across Canada, this program has lifted over 300,000 children out of poverty, and, combined with other tax breaks, over 800,000 families have more disposable income and can now live above the poverty level.
With increases to the Canada Child Benefit coming this week, families whose adjusted family net income (AFNI) is less than $31,220 will receive:
– $6639 per year ($553.25 per month) for each eligible child under the age of six
– $5602 per year ($466.83) for each eligible child aged 6 to 17.
Where the AFNI is higher than $31,120, the CCB is adjusted based on net income. Further details and a CCB calculator can be found at:
