UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins continued their push for the PJHL playoffs over the weekend, scoring back-to-back wins over the Georgina Ice. On Friday night at the Bear Den, the Bruins mauled the Ice 8 to 3. With the action shifting to Sutton on Sunday afternoon; the Bruins kept up their winning ways, doubling up Georgina by a score of 6 to 3. The Bruins wasted little time building their lead on Friday night, with Andrew Swan and Dalton Strongman both scoring within the first 2:22 of play. Spencer Mazakian would stretch the Uxbridge advantage to 3 to 0 before a pair of late goals brought the Ice back to within one at the end of the first period. The middle frame saw the Bruins extend their lead behind goals from Brendan Reid, Cameron Moffitt and Mazakian, while the Ice scored once. The third period saw the Bruins put an exclamation point on the evening, with Justin Bennett and newly acquired Spencer Krabi rounding out the scoring. Cam Smith earned the win in net for Uxbridge. With their Saturday night game in Apsley against North Kawartha postponed because of inclement weather for the second straight weekend, the Bruins wrapped up the weekend slate with a trip to Sutton for a return match with the Ice. Georgina came out with a flurry of action early, taking an early lead before goals by Mazakian and Reid put Uxbridge ahead. However, the lead wouldn’t last long, as Georgina scored late in the opening frame to tie the game 2 to 2. The second period saw the teams trade goals, with Toby Cooper scoring for Uxbridge. Finally, in the third period, the Bruins put the game away after three unanswered goals by new additions Owen McKnight and Andronique Stepanian, and an empty net insurance marker from Bennett. Smith was sensational earning his 10th win of the campaign in goal for the Bruins.
Bear Necessities: – The Bruins continued to show their commitment to the community, and its minor hockey players by hosting the Red Cobras and Bumblebees IP teams on Friday night. – The Bruins will be busy this weekend, with three rivalry games back-to-back-to back. On Friday, January 24th, the Port Perry MoJacks visit the Bear Den at 7:45 p.m. for a Battle of North Durham. On Saturday night, Uxbridge will be looking to close down the Merchants in Little Britain. On Sunday afternoon, it’s another Battle of North Durham, with the Bruins visiting Scugog Arena for a 2:25 p.m. tilt.
