BROCK: Township crews have been working tirelessly to clear the aftermath of the record-breaking blizzard that struck the area on Friday, January 3rd, and Saturday, January 4th. The storm left significant snow accumulations across the municipality, prompting an all-hands-on-deck effort to restore safe conditions for residents.
Throughout the week of January 6th to 10th, municipal road crews were focusing on clearing snow in Cannington. Crews are working strategically in various locations to minimize congestion and ensure efficient removal. Once Cannington roads are cleared, crews will move to Beaverton to conduct similar operations.
Sidewalk blowers and sander machines are also hard at work addressing icy and snow-packed areas in both Beaverton and Cannington. Residents are urged to exercise caution while using sidewalks, as some areas remain slippery.
“We understand how challenging this storm has been for our community, and I want to thank our roads staff for their incredible efforts,” said Regional Councillor Mike Jubb. “Their dedication to keeping our roads and sidewalks safe is commendable, especially under these difficult conditions.”
To assist with heavier snow removal, Brock Township has borrowed a Trackless Machine Blower from Uxbridge. This specialized equipment is being deployed in key areas, including the subdivision behind Lakeland Crescent, to tackle the dense snow.
Local resident Sarah Thompson, who lives near Lakeland Crescent, expressed her gratitude for the efforts. “It’s been a tough few days, but seeing the crews out here with the blower is reassuring. It’s clear they’re doing everything they can to get things back to normal.”
Despite the lifting of the Significant Weather Event declaration on Monday, January 6th, all sidewalks in the Township remain closed to pedestrian traffic until staff can fully clear and remove the snow. This decision prioritizes public safety and allows crews to focus on their work without additional risks.
“We ask residents for their continued patience as we address these unprecedented snow accumulations,” Councillor Jubb added. “The safety of our community is our top priority, and we’re doing everything we can to clear the snow as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
In the coming weeks, the Township plans to transport the excess snow to designated locations to further alleviate the burden on local roads and sidewalks.
John Miller, a long-time Beaverton resident, commended the Township’s efforts. “It’s been a challenging storm, but I’ve seen the crews working non-stop. It’s good to know they’re making progress and prioritizing safety.”
As the cleanup continues, Township staff remind residents to remain cautious and allow space for snow removal equipment to operate. Brock Township staff appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation during this time.
